What are the entry requirements?
You must have work experience in the industry or be employed in the industry. You will be assessed on your English and Maths skills at interview.
After applying you will have an interview to determine which course is suitable for your needs and abilities.
- Minimum Literacy Level: Entry 2
- Minimum Numeracy Level: Entry 2
- You can read and understand short pieces of writing such as letters, messages, simple stories, timetables and adverts. You can write short pieces of writing - for example an email to a friend, a simple letter, a story or a message.
- You can work with numbers, symbols, and simple diagrams. You can add and subtract simple numbers and use simple fractions. You can use money, tell the time, measure things and know about squares, triangles and rectangles.
What qualification will I receive?
NVQ Level 2 in Gas Installation and Maintenance
Where can it lead?
Access to Advanced Courses. On successful completion of the Gas Installation and Maintenance NVQ2 it is recommended that you progress to NVQ3. However other routes of progression are available.
What will I study?
Gas installation & maintenance for domestic installations.
Safety & use
Commissioning of domestic gas appliances
Fault finding and rectification of defects on domestic appliances
How will I be taught?
The course is a combination of both practical and theory inputs
How will I be assessed?
Whilst you will be assessed on individual tasks and skills throughout the course,in the workplace and work based locations. NVQs involve building a 'Portfolio of Evidence' which will include all your practical, attitudinal and theoretical assessments, both from internal projects and external site assessment.

You will have access to a personal tutor to help you through the course, and the College offers a comprehensive range of student services, including learning support, language support and guidance.
