ICT sets out to extend the students conception of the effects and limitations of information and communication technology and understanding of the new opportunities it provides within organisations and society.

About this course

ICT can be taken at AS Level with GCSE ICT or equivalent. Normally students 16 - 19 years of age will require a minimum of 6 GCSEs at grades A* - C including Maths and English. Entry for mature students without formal qualifications is at the discretion of the Curriculum Area.

Course programme

  • The theory will be assessed through a computer based test in May/June
  • Project work based on everyday applications, such as Word Processing, Web Page Design, Databases and Spreadsheets.
  • AS Level cannot be taken without prior study of the subject Well equipped, modern computer laboratories

A Levels provide an excellent basis for progression to higher level qualifications such as degrees or Higher National Diplomas. Virtually all employers need IT professionals. Most large organisations have their own specialist IT departments and there are opportunities for IT specialists in every employment sector including, Manufacturing, Retailing, Financial Services, Transportation and Public Bodies.

AS Level:

AICT 1: eBusiness is taken through a 3 hour on-screen examination; AICT 2: eSkills is a practical project based on generic software and an Awarding Body devised assignment; AICT 5: eProject is an external controlled assignment; AICT 6: eStudio is an internal Awarding Body devised assignment.
