Programme Description:
This course offers a framework through which students can study the distinctive contributions that the mass media make to their understanding and enjoyment of the world in which they live. Through a variety of approaches to the constantly changing media environment, students will develop a critical and analytical understanding of a wide range of media texts as well as focusing on the sociological and political contexts of the media institutions which create and circulate them.

About this course

Progression and Employment:
A Levels provide an excellent basis for progression to Higher level qualifications such as degrees or Higher National Diplomas
There are a number of careers directly related to Media Studies including Television Researcher, Journalism, TV and Radio Presenter, TV Production Assistant

Additional information

Method of Assessment AS Level: One examination focusing on an unseen print or audio visual text, and requiring candidates to engage with issues of audience response and representations (50%). A coursework portfolio consisting of two linked pieces of practical work (one pre-production and one production) plus an accompanying report (50%). A2 Level: One examination focusing on a range of media industries, using case study material to explore key concepts (50%). A coursework portfolio which contains an investigative essay on aspects of media output (chosen by the candidate) and an accompanying piece of practical work.
