A Level
Logical thought and understanding of concepts are involved in this course. The development of problem solving skills, powers of analysis and evaluation techniques prepares students for relevant areas of future study. Physics and scientific enquiry are used to solve problems and to stimulate an awareness of the social, technological, environmental and economic impact of physics in present-day society.
About this course
Normally, students progressing from school will require a minimum of six GCSEs at grades A* - C to enter the A level programme. It is highly recommended that students have GCSE mathematics at grade B and BB in additional or triple science. Entry for mature students without formal qualifications is at the discretion of the Curriculum Area.

- Text books dedicated to our AQA specifications are made available to students but it's useful for students to purchase their own copy
- Students are encouraged to develop an enthusiasm and interest in physics by wider reading of books, magazines and internet sites and will have opportunities to give presentations on modern topics
- Lessons are supported with demonstrations, video clips and individual practical work undertaken in a modern dedicated laboratory boasting a pleasant ambience
- Examples and problems are often related to the real world in which we live
- Homework is a regular feature of this programme
- A Levels provide an excellent basis for progression to courses such as degrees or higher national qualifications
- There are many careers directly related to physics including teaching, engineering, nuclear medicine, electronics, development engineering and industrial research
- Careers where the skills developed through physics might be useful include Forensic Science, Geology, Chemistry, Operational Research or Medical Sales. These are just a few of the potential careers available.
