Psychology is one of the youngest sciences, and many of its conclusions are the subject of ongoing controversy and debate. This course examines the history of psychology, its scientific basis and the varied perspectives which are constantly competing to explain and develop our understanding of humans and animals.

6 GCSEs at Grades A* - C including English / Welsh or Maths.  Maths, English and Science (Biology if triple science taken at GCSE) GCSE Grade B or above.

Course programme

  • The course enables learners to develop an understanding of the human mind and human and animal behaviour. Upon successful completion of this course learners will understand their actions and thoughts more clearly, and develop an increased understanding and tolerance towards others
  • Learners will develop many essential skills through studying psychology. They will learn to think critically, and to express themselves clearly. These skills are essential preparation for university regardless of the university course being studied

  • A Levels provide an excellent basis for progression to higher level qualifications such as Degrees or Higher National Diplomas
  • Studying psychology may lead to professions such as social work, probation work, teaching, nursing, the police force or administration and management
  • Psychology graduates may work in the Health Service or Education authorities as well as in industry, advertising or journalism
