Description

  • Type

    A Level

Sociology is the study of society. The course focuses on why some groups of people in society have better life-chances than others. Sociology tries to understand how various social institutions operate and relate to one another, for example the influence of the family might have on how well children perform in the education system. Sociology is also concerned with describing and explaining the patterns of inequality, deprivation and conflict which are a feature of nearly all societies. The first year of the course focuses on the sociology of families and households and the sociology of education. The second year specification covers the sociology of power and control within crime and deviance and social inequalities.
