GCSE Business Studies

We look at different kinds of business organisations in the public and private sectors, and investigate how they operate and the influences they have within our society and beyond. The course looks at business in the current environment and offers plenty of opportunities to discuss local, national and international organisations. We will work to Edexcel specifications.

What will I be doing?
The units we will be discussing are as follows:

• business activity and the changing environment
• human resources
• accounting and finance
• marketing and production

How will I be assessed?
Throughout the course we use a named text to support your studies, with regular homework and tests. You will complete a series of short answer questions, presentations, investigations, essays, observations, and past exam questions, enabling you to get a good feel for the subject. Coursework accounts for 25% of the final mark with an exam (75%) in June. You will have the opportunity to sit
the Foundation or Higher paper, depending on your progress during the course.

Where do I go from here?
A grade C in Business Studies will enable you to enrol onto an AS Level course in Business, Economics or Accounting. Attainment of five or more GCSEs will enable you to enrol on a full AS Level programme or a BND. Your choice of BND may be in Business, Public Services, Health & Social Care etc, and depends on your chosen educational or career route.
