About this course

You need to show that you have the potential to achieve 5 GCSEs, including English and maths, in one year as well as a commitment to intensive study. Current Functional Skills qualifications in English and maths at level 2 and a number of GCSEs at grade 3 (D) are desirable but not essential, as you will take pre-entry assessment tests in English, maths and science at interview to establish your potential to succeed on the course, and a further, more detailed pre-entry assessment before the course begins. A satisfactory reference will also be required.

Course programme

Year 1

You will study a range of 5 GCSEs, including GCSE English and maths, in preparation for multiple examinations in June. In addition to English and maths, you will be taking GCSEs in sociology, psychology, chemistry or biology to reach the 5 GCSE requirement for a full level 2 qualification. You will have the support of a personal learning tutor who you will meet on a regular basis to discuss your progress, and subject tutors will continuously set and review academic targets to develop your skills.

Additional information

You will be assessed by both examination and controlled assessments in each GCSE. Throughout the year, you will be expected to complete regular homework and blend-space assessments to both support your learning in class and to self-study aspects of the specifications.
