Course programme

Course overview Have you ever wondered how the body works? Would you like to know the science behind the world we live? If yes, this is the course for you. Throughout the course you will study four units; Human Biology, Organisms, Evolution and the Environment. The course integrates the principles of 'How Science Works' throughout the units and in the controlled assessment. The course helps put biology in the context of students' everyday lives with topics ranging from 'Keeping healthy' to 'Humans and their environment'. The specification is based on a series of topics related to the living world and relevant to students. It is designed to help you understand how science can be used to explain the world in which you live and the impact humans have. You are encouraged to develop practical skills with hands-on work and encouraged to see how science is used to solve problems ranging from infectious diseases to creating biofuels. Entry requirements Grade D in GCSE biology or science is an ideal way to start your GCSE course. If you have lower than a D you will need to discuss this with a lecturer to see if the course is suitable for you. Everyone who applies to do GCSE Biology will need to undertake a pre-assessment paper to establish your level of understanding of the concepts of Biology. This will enable the tutors to assist with target setting and help with specific areas to focus on.
