This course is for students who have not yet achieved Grade C in English at GCSE and wish, or need to improve their grade either for employment purposes or to move on to A level or diploma courses.
1. Writing
You will focus on three areas: a creative writing task, a response to a Shakespeare play and poetry.
2. Speaking and Listening
You will focus on three assignments: an individual presentation, pair discussion and group work, including role-play. You will be given more than one opportunity in each to obtain the best possible grade. Much of this work will be completed in the first term of the course. In the second and third terms of the course you will study:

You will learn how to respond to unseen Media and Non-fiction texts and prepared short stories from different cultures. There will also be three writing tasks for different purposes. You will practise and develop the reading and writing skills required for the examinations.
Assessment
This course is assessed by a combination of examination (60%) and coursework (40%).
