Course content:

Number
Simple arithmetic, Decimals, Fractions, Estimations, Ratios.
Algebra
Simple formulae and equations, Graphs, Indices, Reciprocals, Flow Diagrams.
Shape and Space
Simple shapes, Symmetry, Angles and Rotation, Areas of plane figures, Bearings, Pythagoras' Theorum.
Handling Data
Collection and grouping of data, Pie Charts, Frequency Diagrams, Mean, Median, Mode, Probability
Using and Applying Mathematics
Coursework, Investigations
Assessment procedure:
There are three tiers of entry for this syllabus:
Foundation Target Grades D - G
Intermediate Target Grades B - F
Higher Target Grades A* - D
The examination for each tier consists of:-
Two written papers - 70% of total marks
Coursework - 20% of total marks
Aural Test - 10% of total marks
Each of these is an
essential part of the examination. The written papers and the Aural Test
must be taken at each examination entry. The coursework component mark may be carried forward once only from one examination to the next within a period of 12 months.
