The GCSE maths course aims to:Give improved confidence to learners in MathematicsGive learners the knowledge and skills to pass Maths GCSE at grade 4 or higherThis course covers a two-year school course in only 8 months. It is suitable for anyone needing to gain GCSE Maths grade '4' or above: this offers access to higher courses, including A-level and some professional training, and gives confidence in helping your children with their school work. The course follows the syllabus laid down by AQA exam board. You will be required to sit three exams, two calculator papers and one non-calculator paper, in June: Statistics and Number (Unit 1), Number and Algebra (Unit 2), and Geometry and Algebra (Unit 3).

Course programme



Classes will be held each week during school terms. There will be opportunity for individual learning, small group work, and full group sessions. Progress will be measured through your work, and by regular assessments. The tutor will give individual feedback in tutorial sessions. Homework will be given on a regular basis as this will improve your chance of success. Your tutor will also recommend books, websites etc. so you can study independently.



A GCSE in maths at grade '4' or above is an essential qualification for most jobs. It is also needed if you want to undertake further training for professional qualifications, for instance, teaching and nursing. If you want to go to university, you may be interested in taking an Access course. Pre-Access courses are also offered as is GCSE English.

Additional information

A scientific calculator and geometry set will be necessary, as will a file, notepaper, pens and pencils.
