2. Course description This exciting course will develop your interest and understanding of how music is created, through a practical approach. It focuses on your abilities to listen to, perform, compose and appraise music in a variety of styles, from classical to pop, from bhangra to disco. GCSE Music gives you a solid grounding for studying at higher level, but it is also a great course in its own right. Assessment can be achieved by students who have received tuition only in the classroom. All instruments are accepted, and your performance can be in any style of music chosen by you.

3. Entry requirements Although we always give individual consideration to every applicant, in general the minimum requirement for this one-year course is a level of skill in music reading (i.e. treble and bass clef), theoretical knowledge and performance equivalent to Grade 2 standard. In addition to homework and coursework, you will need to pursue your instrumental or vocal studies outside class time. This, together with preparation and rehearsal time, will develop your skills for solo and ensemble performance. We encourage all students interested in doing GCSE Music to talk to a member of staff (see Further Information, below) to help assess your position and give advice on the best way forward. 4. Equipment required No equipment required 5. Assessment method Not available
