The course is laboratory based with practical activities and class work. To gain this qualification in science you are required to pass four exams/assessments. You will study the basics from organisms in their environment to materials and how they are used/made. Unit 1, 2 and 3 are exam based and covers all the content of GCSE Science, it is mixed science so it will contain some chemistry, physics and biology. Unit 4 is the controlled assessment, it is an essay and practical, completed in class.

What you need to know
How will I study?

All the basics of core science, from microbes to the big bang. AQA GCSE Science B is based on four units, unit 4 is the controlled assessment, an essay and practical on a topic relating to scientific enquiry. Unit 1 to 3 are based on the GCSE content. This is a mixed science course, so you will study some physics, chemistry and biology. This course is designed to put science into context, to relate science to real life.
How will I be taught?

In class using a variety of resources. Practical activities and in class assessments. Based on one 3 hour lesson per week. You will be required to study in your own time, this can include reading text books and notes, research and homework.
How will I be assessed?

Unit 4 is a controlled assessment, a practical and write up, this is class based. Unit 1 to 3 are assessed by written exams in June. Each unit is worth 25%. Each week work will be set to show how you are progressing, this work isn’t part of the assessment but helps develop your science knowledge.
