This subject covers 3 themes
·Relations between man, other organisms and the environment- dealing with topics of health, hygiene and pollution·Organisation and maintenance of the individual- looks at the working of all the human body systems·Reproduction, growth and development- an insight into reproduction and genetics
How will I be assessed?
GCSE Science qualification which can be entered at either foundation (grades C to G) or higher level (grades A* to D).
The work is tested by a single 2 hours written paper covering the whole syllabus which counts for 75%.
The other 25% of the mark is from course work which involves planning, carrying out and writing up a simple investigation on a topic selected by the teacher.
What can I do next?
Progression from this course can lead to AS /A2 level examination in any subject but particularly biology/human biology.
It is also suitable for those going onto higher GNVQ e.g. in Health and Social Care or those joining an access course. It may also lead onto an NVQ in Anatomy and Physiology.
