General Pathway – Access to Higher Education Diploma (Education)
If you want to study an education related subject at undergraduate level, but you are not sure which area you would like to work in, this could be the ideal course for you. Offering a balance of educational practice, theory and childhood studies, this is the perfect programme for those who want to gain a valuable insight into the world of education.
Contrary to popular belief, you do not need to have A-levels to get into university. If you do not have traditional qualifications, an Access to HE Diploma is an alternative route. The diploma is widely accepted by UK universities and promises to prepare you for the demands of higher education. Furthermore, it has been specially crafted to suit the needs of those who have been out of education for some time.
As a distance learning course, this qualification offers you freedom with your studies. First of all, you are not required to wait until September to get started. You can start straight away or begin studying at a time that suits you the most. Secondly, you are not required to attend classes.
How long it takes you to complete your Access course really depends upon how much time you are able to dedicate to your studies. The programmes are designed to give you the flexibility to study at times that are suitable for you, and to fit your studies around your other commitments. The maximum time you have to complete your Diploma is outlined in your Individual Learning Plan (ILP). The minimum time you can complete your Access course is six months.

Unit 19: The Developing Child

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Display knowledge of the process of Child Development.

  • Display knowledge of studies and debates over the concept of intelligence.
  • Understand processes of developing psychological schemas.

Study Hours

This is only an approximate figure and is dependant upon how much time you can dedicate to your studies and how well you grasp the learning concepts in the course material. Furthermore, at the end of each lesson there is a question paper that needs to be completed and returned to your tutor. You should allow at least 1 - 2 hours of study to complete each question paper.

The approximate amount of time required to complete the course is: 342 hrs.
