Why study BSc(Hons) Geology?

BSc(Hons) Geology will equip you with a solid understanding of the subject, with a focus on applying it across a range of industries. As you progress, you will study modules addressing key geological themes: hydrogeology, geotechnics and geological hazards. You can tailor the course to your interests, with options including GIS, Quaternary geology, and coastal and fluvial geomorphology. Alongside this, you will develop valuable skills in laboratory and microscope work, field skills, geological mapping and computer-based spatial analysis, along with report writing and presentation skills.
Real world experience
You will apply theoretical and field data in our well-equipped laboratories. You will conduct assignments based on real-world issues and broaden your experience through local and international field trips. There will also be an opportunity to apply your learning and develop vital professional skills on a work placement in your preferred area of expertise.
Where it can take you
On graduation, you will be prepared for many of the typical areas of work for geologists. Studying geology can also lead to a wide range of other careers. On graduation, you can pursue opportunities ranging from geotechnical engineering, engineering geology, environmental consultancy, hydrogeology, oil and gas industries, quarrying and mining, to finance, education and research.
