The Geosystem Exploration and Petroleum GeoEngineering (GEPG) program, as an Interdisciplinary Area of Specialization under the Geotechnical and Earth Resources Engineering (GTE) field of study, was conceived to respond to the high demand of highly qualified human resources in the upstream sector of an emerging oil and gas industry in the SE Asia region and beyond. In addition, the program trains professional skilled in applied and near-surface geophysics, groundwater engineering and development, site investigation for construction of onshore and offshore petroleum facilities.

Course programme

The curriculum of GEPG offer courses on fundamentals of geo-exploration, petroleum system modeling, drilling technology, petroleum economics, exploration geophysics, petrophysics, well logging interpretation, petroleum reservoir engineering, petroleum production engineering and practical operation in oil and gas E∓P. Visits to the oil and gas companies, field trips to the HC fields in the region are an integrated part of the training program. In addition, the students are trained through doing the researches to be able to cope with topics such as soft computing, analytical and numerical analysis of heat and fluid modeling, characterization of special types of reservoirs such as carbonate, fractured granite basements, assessment of or new types of energy resources such as shale gas, gas hydrate, geothermal energy etc.
More than just offering an international environment for higher education and a pool of teaching faculty who are experts from the academe and the industry, GEPG program allows students to take the cross-field courses in information and computational technology as well as management science, areas where modern geo-engineers feel they are inadequately trained.

Preferred Background

Master Program:

A four-year bachelor’s degree, or its equivalent in Geological, Geophysical, Petroleum, Mechanical and Civil Engineering.

Doctoral Program:

Master degree in Earth Sciences, Geophysics, Geology, Petroleum Engineering, Engineering Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, Mining, Physics.
