Course programme

German

Introduction

The German Department has an impressive reputation for teaching and research. Its core is a structured language teaching programme; however, the department also covers Literary Studies, History, Thought, Politics, Medieval Studies, Linguistics and Cultural Studies from the Middle Ages to the present. The teaching programme combines the key disciplines within German Studies with an unusually wide range of options that allow students to pursue their personal interests. There is an active students' German Society, which organises regular cultural and social events and visits to German cities, and produces a German play every year.

Assessment
Assessment methods include seminar and oral language presentations, long and short essays, translation work, dissertations and examinations of varying lengths.
