German with Chinese

German with Chinese (25% Chinese) will enable you to spend most of your time in German while also being able to learn a new language, Chinese. You will develop your linguistic skills by taking a language module in German and Mandarin each year you are at Warwick.

Intensive language work from advanced or beginner level opens up the richness of German language and cultural life, enabling you to graduate as a highly qualified linguist with intercultural skills and a deep understanding of key issues and developments in Germany’s past and present.

Mandarin Chinese is the mother tongue of over 873 million people, making it the most widely spoken first language in the world. At Warwick, we offer you the opportunity to study Mandarin Chinese from beginner’s up to advanced level, while gaining cultural insights into the contemporary Chinese society and its business world. During the summer you can join our intensive four-week Study-China programme in Beijing to enhance your language competence and experience the culture at first hand.
The study of Mandarin Chinese language on this course is suitable for applicants who are beginners in the language or with a qualification up to A-Level standard (or equivalent) in Mandarin Chinese. However, please note that applicants with Mandarin Chinese language ability above this level, including native speakers, would not be suitable for this course.

You can spend your year abroad either in a German-speaking country for the whole year, or you can split your time between a German-speaking country and China.
