German with Spanish

German with Spanish (25% Spanish) will enable you to take a full range of German modules and start - or keep up - your Spanish language.

Germany has always been at the heart of the European intellectual tradition and is now the driving force of its economy and the EU. Our modules reflect the range and diversity of Germany’s culture, history and society. Intensive language work from advanced or beginner level opens up the richness of German language and cultural life, enabling you to graduate as a highly qualified linguist with intercultural skills and a deep understanding of key issues and developments in Germany’s past and present.

You can spend your year abroad either in a German-speaking country for the whole year, or you can split your time between a German-speaking country and a Spanish-speaking country.
We hold a residential course in Germany, open to all of our students on their year abroad. In the final year, we offer research-led modules taught by experts in their field and supported by the wealth of material in our Transnational Resources Centre.

For Spanish, you will study a language module at an appropriate level (beginners/ intermediate/ advanced) in your first and second years, and in your final year you can choose either to study language or to take a module on the culture or society of the Hispanophone world if you have reached a satisfactory language standard in your 2nd year. You don’t have to have studied Spanish before: there are language classes to suit all levels from beginners to post-A level.
