This course will give you an introduction to working in the food service / restaurant industry. You will complete two units as part of this course:
Principles of Promoting Additional Services or Products to Customers (know the importance of promoting additional services or products that are available / know how to promote additional services or products to customers to benefit organisations and its customers.
Principles of Preparing and Serving Cocktails (know how to prepare service areas and equipment for serving cocktails / know how to prepare and serve cocktails.

Course programme

The course is delivered and assessed at the Tycoch campus, in the Vanilla Pod training restaurant. Assessment methods will include practical observations and assessments, role play, discussions, short tests and theory lessons.

Throughout the course, you will complete a portfolio of evidence, which will be submitted to the external verifiers for moderation.


You could progress onto a full time course or you may choose to complete another short course, as a natural progression

You must have a keen interest to work in the restaurant industry. You may be working in the industry and feel the need to improve your skills. You will need to attend an informal interview / guidance session, prior to enrolling.

Additional information

To maintain a professional appearance, you will be required to wear black trousers / skirt, along with a smart shirt /blouse. You will also be required to wear black, closed shoes / footwear. Long hair must be worn up. No visible jewellery or piercings will be permitted. No nail varnish / gel nails. Minimal makeup will be permitted.
