This Build your own MA (BYOMA) short course will engage you with current debates in international journalism, while introducing major global developments and their impact on news reporting. The purpose is to develop your judgment and ability to link developments from different localities, periods and spheres of human activity, while dealing with issues of, and challenges to, professional practice.
You will analyse the role of media organisations and other global news-makers in the setting of the public agenda; evaluate and offer new insights into the way key issues, global current affairs and other pressures affect the nation-state, and impact on the local or regional level; and synthesise and appraise current affairs along with contemporary research. This will culminate in the production of, and critical reflection on rigorous and balanced reportage.
