What will I learn?
Explore how political power is gained and used, and learn how governments and other political institutions and systems work. You will study political structures such as the voting system and parliament and the case for and against changing those structures; the definitions and the functions of concepts such as democracy and recent developments in the world of politics. Politics is the way a society or a group manages conflict and disagreement.
What qualifications do I need?
We would normally require candidates to have the standard sixth form entry criteria, including GCSE English Language to at least grade B.
Career opportunities:
The study of government and politics increases your awareness of what is going on in the world around you and develops your skills of argument and discussion (written and spoken). These are useful qualities in many areas, most particularly: marketing, Civil Service, police, customs services, immigration, taxation and local government and journalism.
