This course is perfect if you have an interest in how the country is governed, different political systems and how they work.
Areas of study in year one include:
Rights and democracy in the UK
Elections and voting
Political parties and groups
Representative governmental institutions in the UK.
Areas of study in year two include:
US politics - electoral processes, the US Constitution, US parties and branches of US government
Ideologies such as conservatism, socialism, communism, liberalism and nationalism.

Course programme
Classroom based course. Four units studied, all assessed with an 1.5 hour written examination (May/June). 4.75 hours per week contact time
Many students go on to take degree courses such as politics or international relations. Students who have taken the course have gone on to study at highly regarded institutions such as Aberystwyth, Bristol, Cardiff, Oxford, Cambridge, Kings College London, LSE and Swansea. Staying at Gower College Swansea, students can progress on to the Foundation Degree in English and History. Careers in politics, political parties and pressure groups, the civil service, local government, media, journalism, social work, banking, law, public services, business and industry. Knowledge of Government and Politics is very useful in a wide variety of fields.
Grade B in GCSE English Language and Literature is essential. Students will need to be enthusiastic, with an interest in news and current affairs essential to gaining a good grade in the subject.
