Government and Politics AS Level Edexcel 8GPO1

Students learn about the institutions which form Parliamentary government in the UK, with reference to devolution and the European Union. Electoral systems, the constitution, political parties and pressure groups will also be studied. The subject fits well with History, English, Law, Sociology and Media Studies. Students go on to university or varied employment fields

Course Content
AS Unit 1: People and Politics- This unit involves the study of politics by looking at the central ideas of citizenship, democracy and participation, and by examining the representative processes in the UK.
AS Unit 2: Governing in the UK- An introduction to the major political institutions of UK government, their relationship with one another and consideration of their effectiveness.
How will I be assessed?
AS Unit 1: People and Politics- 1 hour 20 minutes exam.
AS Unit 2: Governing in the UK- 1 hour 20 minutes exam.
What can I do next?
Students can continue on to A2 level or to other Social Science courses.
