The Graduate Diploma of Midwifery from Charles Sturt University, accredited by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC), combines theoretical, simulation and workplace learning over 12 to 18 months of online study.

This postgraduate course enables you to work and study concurrently as a student midwife while becoming a qualified midwife eligible for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA).

Please note: First-round offers were made on 30 October 2020. More offers will be made in Round 2 (26 November) and depending on availability of places, there may be a third round in January 2021.

About this course

Subjects

For each 8 point subject you are enrolled in, you should expect to spend 10 to 12 hours per week working on assignments and assigned readings, tutorial assistance, individual or group research/study, forum activity, workplace learning, and attending lectures, residential schools, or examinations.

If you are studying four subjects per session, this is equivalent to a full-time job. The workload for some subjects may vary as a result of approved course design.

As a Charles Sturt University student, throughout your course you have a responsibility to continue to develop skills in English language, literacy and numeracy as appropriate to your discipline. This ongoing development will enable you to effectively participate in your course and graduate prepared to enter the workforce.

To graduate students must satisfactorily complete 64 points.Full subject list
Students enrolling in this course are AHPRA registered nurses with a 12 month student midwife employment contract. All subjects are core.

The Graduate Diploma of Midwifery is an entry to practice twelve month fulltime 64 credit point course delivered online over three sessions and comprising of seven subjects:

1. MID441 Midwifery Studies 1 (Theory) 8
2. MID442 Midwifery Studies 2 (Theory) 8
3. MID 443/4 Midwifery Practice (Clinical Practice) 24
4. MID445 Indigenous Midwifery Care  (Theory) 4
5. MID 446 Pharmacology for Midwives (Theory) 4
6. MID447 The Professional Midwife (Theory) 8
7. MID452 Midwifery as Primary Health Care (Theory) 8
