Whether you want to pursue a career in government, international relations, business, media or education, this course will equip you with the skills you need to get there.
This degree will ask you to think critically about the underlying theories and concepts of American studies, and test your assumptions about the United States and its influence in the world.
Our course provides you with an international perspective on American politics and foreign policy. It will prepare you to reach your intellectual goals by ranging from policy analysis through to an appreciation of cultural power and historical change.

Study planThe Graduate Diploma in US Studies requires the satisfactory completion of:
(a) a minimum of 6 credit points from core units of study;
(b) a minimum of 18 credit points from core elective units of study; and
(c) a maximum of 24 credit points from core or elective units of study. With the permission of the Degree Coordinator a maximum of 6 credit points of elective units can be taken from units of study outside those listed in the US Studies subject area of the Postgraduate Unit of Study Table, including from units of study offered by other faculties.
Graduate opportunities
This course will equip you to pursue a career in government, international relations, business, media or education. Our graduates have gone on to roles including campaign organiser, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) Officer, non-profit/NGO sector campaign officer, chief political advisor, journalists and researchers.
