Course programme

Summary

Students choose from several pathways for their Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma; deciding to study either: 3D Spatial Design, Fine Art, Photography, Digital Art, Animation and Games Design, Fashion Textiles, Graphics and Illustration or Art & Design.

All students on the listed pathways work towards the University of the Arts London (UAL) Level 3 Diploma in Art and Design in their first year of study; progressing onto their University of the Arts London (UAL) Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art and Design in their second year. The Extended Diploma at Distinction level is allocated 168 UCAS points, which is equivalent to 3 full A Levels at grade A.

The course is a brilliant introduction to all the aspects of creative Graphic Design and a recognised qualification for applying to HE degree courses in Graphic Design related subjects and the creative industries. This course is approved and examined by the University of the Arts London (UAL) and is the only specialist awarding body for art, design & creative designs in England. The course is particularly appropriate for school-leavers who have an interest in art & design, illustration and games design. Based in the college’s architect designed Creative Arts Building, this course covers a range of essential vocational graphic design skills. You will be taught in our two Graphic Design studios. Our art studio is our base for drawing and exploring a wide range of traditional media. You will begin most projects with hands-on art-based workshops, with access to printmaking facilities, cameras and mixed media. The other studio is a PC room with scanners and a printer. You will use Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign to digitise your project work.

Additional information

Progression Successfully completion the Level 3 Diploma in Art & Design will provide direct entry onto the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art & Design in the second year. The design and structure of the University of the Arts London (UAL) Level 3 Diploma in Art & Design allows students the opportunity to further extend their learning by choosing an alternative Creative Arts pathway in their second year. For example, provided that they meet the entry requirements, a student could follow the Graphics and Illustration pathway in their first year and then choose to follow the Fine Art, 3D Spatial Design, Photography, Digital Art, Fashion Textiles or Art & Design pathway in their second year. This multi-disciplinary route is becoming increasingly popular with our students who recognise that they need a broad portfolio of skills to thrive in the creative sector.
