Course programme

This two-year foundation degree course will give you a solid grounding in graphic design. You’ll be able to develop your practical skills and knowledge of the design business, from taking briefs to working with different media.

The course explores a wide range of graphic disciplines, with modules dedicated to topics such as publication design, graphic identity, packaging and promotional graphics, as well as design history and the design industry.

There’s a strong practical element. Working graphic designers help teach the course and much of your coursework will involve design briefs, which you’ll tackle individually or as part of a team in our well-equipped studios.

You’ll also work on placement in both years of the course so you can learn on the job. We’ve strong links with employers locally and we’ll help you arrange high quality placements using our contacts.

We live in an increasingly visual world. Customers will make snap decisions about companies within seconds of picking up their literature or visiting their website – and this is a vital consideration for any designer.

During the course you’ll explore these cultural issues, how different visual identities influence perception and how you can adapt your design approach to appeal to the given audience and achieve the right outcomes for your clients.

All of this is great preparation for any visual career, but if you want to you can study at university for a third year and ‘top up’ your qualification to an honours degree.
