This introductory level course is designed as machine operator training for 2 and 4 stroke hand held powered tools. The range of equipment covered are typically, strimmer/brushcutter, pedestrian mowers, leaf blower and hedge cutter. The course does not include any competence based assessment and would be deemed suitable for occasional users of such powered tools. The training level is suitable to satisfy Regulation 9 of the HSE, PUWER Regs.1998, 'adequate training'

Delivered in a mixed format of theory and practical, the course covers:

  • General machine safety, HSE guidelines
  • PPE requirements
  • Operator risk assessments
  • Pre start, service checks and machine adjustments
  • Basic machine maintenance
  • Safe operation of the machines, demonstration and limited practical

Additional Information

Candidates must attend with strong footwear, ideally steel toe capped and suitable outdoor clothing

If you have a requirement to train a larger number of operators, such as a group of employees, then bespoke training dates can be arranged upon request. Workplace training with your own equipment is also available subject to facilities and numbers

Additional Qualifications

Further courses may be available that focus more in depth on one of the above machines. These may be useful if the operator is required to complete a competence assessments with the City & Guilds NPTC in the safe use of such equipment.
