The overall objective of this one day workshop is to provide an insight into how group financial statements are prepared. It will look at the fundamentals of group financial accounting as well as give a deeper understanding into some of the more subjective issues such as the calculation of goodwill and stepped acquisitions. By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the concepts behind acquisition and equity accounting
- Explain how commercial substance is reflected in group accounts
- Recognise how control is determined and how this can be achieved beyond an equity stake
- Appreciate the methods and challenges involved in the calculation of goodwill
