This framework provides a nationally agreed apprenticeship framework for a work based learning route into employment for the hairdressing industry, using qualifications that combine both skills and knowledge.
Apprenticeships are the traditional way for training hairdressers.
Learners will be encouraged and supported to achieve their qualification goals. They will be assisted to improve their skills, knowledge and understanding in their vocational area and supported to enhance their future employability and meet the business needs.
By raising the employees' skills and competencies to improve the service delivery and provide business benefit to the organisation in relation to bottom-line benefits including: turnover, efficiency, retention, motivation and better value for money.

Course programme

In order to achieve a full Apprenticeship you must successfully complete the different parts of the framework over 12 to 18 months. This consists of sector related industry qualifications. Competence and Knowledge qualification Level 2 (QCF) Diploma in Hairdressing Mandatory units Ensure responsibility for actions to reduce risks to health and safety Give clients a positive impression of yourself and your organisation Advise and consult with clients Shampoo and condition hair and scalp Change hair colour Style and finish hair Set and dress hair Cut hair using basic techniques Functional Skills qualifications Level 1 Functional Skill in English Level 1 Functional Skill in Maths Employment Rights and Responsibilities Personal Learning and Thinking Skills Apprenticeships give you the opportunity to work for a real employer, earn a real salary and gain a real qualification whilst gaining valuable workplace skills and experience. One day a week in your chosen campus (Keighley or Printworks) is spent in college learning the theory and basis of application in a supportive learning environment. For the rest of the week you will be in paid employment within a Hairdressing establishment. You will be given the opportunity and support to practice and develop the newly acquired knowledge and skills. A rigorous recruitment and selections process is carried out to ensure that the aspiring apprentices are suited to enduring this exciting and challenging route of study.
