Course programme

Completion of an application form and an informal interview/discussion with Hairdressing specialists is required prior to enrolment. Applicants will be required to show evidence of their ability to be successful in the theoretical and practical parts of the course, during their interview. Completion of diagnostic tests in Communication and Application of Number at Level 2 is required. Course Content The course includes the following units: • Follow Health & Safety Practice in the Salon • Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp • Client consultation for hair services • Drying and setting technique • Cutting • Colour and lighten hair • Perming and neutralising • Salon Reception duties How will I be assessed? Assessment is continuous throughout the course with observation, oral and written testing and portfolio work. Progression Progression to NVQ Level 3 is recommended to enhance an individual’s career prospects. Additional training in Beauty or in Management leads to opportunities in specialist salons or as industrial consultants. Acquisition of a teaching qualification gives the possibility of lecturing in Further Education after experience in industry. Fees • If you are aged 16-18 as of 31st August on the year of enrolment - no course fee. • If you are over 19 as of 31st August and enrolling on a full-time programme of study a tuition fee will be applicable in most cases, please contact us for full information. Bursary Funds: There are financial support arrangements for 16-18 year olds and hardship funds available for the over 19’s.
