    A Level

This full time NVQ Diploma level 2 qualification is a one year programme aimed at developing candidates to become junior hairdressing salon stylists and covers basic hairdressing techniques. It is the second level of qualifications within the hairdressing framework leading to other qualifications at levels 2 and 3. As part of the programme learners will also complete Essential Skills and the Welsh Baccalaureate National post 16 Qualification. Opportunities will also be provided for GCSEs in English, Welsh and Mathematics and for Welsh language development. A hairdressing kit and uniform are a compulsory requirement for the course.

About this course

Candidate must have completed Hairdressing NVQ Level 1 or had salon experience. A successful interview and skills and dexterity tests, good communication and interpersonal skills are also essential. A requirement of 3 GCSE's D grade or above or equivalent. Maths, English or Welsh desirable.

  • Extra curriculum activities include fashion shows, competitions and industrial events

This qualification is the minimum requirement for the qualified hair stylist. Level 2 is an essential requirement for progressing onto hairdressing level 3 full time course or an apprenticeship in hairdressing at level 3.

Additional information

Continual practical observation in a real working environment throughout the programme. Written and oral assessments for each unit and assignments to ensure essential knowledge and understanding.

Assessments can be undertaken in Welsh or English.
