The dog bite Prevention and handling skills course was specially designed with the pet professional in mind, or individuals that own dogs that want to better understand the behaviour of pet dogs. Ideal for Dog groomers, dog walkers, dog trainers, dog wardens, animal wardens, pet sitters, kennel hands, vet nurses. Or for anyone who comes into contact with dogs.

The main aim of this course is to help individuals better understand when a dog is becoming stressed, and could potentially be dangerous. Pinpointing a potential hazard, and thus preventing Dog Bites, and how to avoid and diffuse any situations that might arise.

The course will take you through a wide range of topics including:

  • Understanding the dog’s senses
  • Puppy Development
  • How dogs communicate
  • Signs of stress
  • Conflict avoidance
  • How dogs learn & and factors affecting learning
  • Aggression
  • Handling skills
  • Case studies

By the end of the course you will be able to:

  • Identify which breed of dog is most aggressive and more likely to bite
  • Interpret warning signs, and what potentially triggered a dogs behaviour and what could be done differently
  • Understand the importance of correct puppy socialisation
  • Understand how dogs communicate and how they are commonly misunderstood
  • Identify signs of stress in dogs
  • Understand the Psychology and various methods in which dogs learn
  • Identify the correct training procedures to train dogs effectively
  • Understand the different forms of aggression
  • How to keep safe around dogs
  • Be aware of useful equipment that can help protect yourself and the dogs in you car

The course can be certificated through Open College Network (OCN) up on completion of marked course work and end of session question paper

The fee to register for this is currently £50 and would be payable direct to the tutor as separate to the course fee
