What You’ll Learn

Carpentry site work can be very lucrative but there is also a demand for other areas of carpentry to be taught, like Joinery which provides you with the skill and knowledge to construct and assemble joints, using precision measuring and cutting. Skilled Joiners undertake the more detailed and intricate aspects of woodworking.

This Joinery course will provide you with an understanding of how to construct and assemble various joints and the range of work you can expect to undertake following this training will include the setting out, marking out and assembly of doors, windows, door frames/linings, stairs and carcass units.

This 4 weeks of hands on joinery training will see you progress from a novice to a competent Joiner with the course designed to build your skills gradually until various aspects of joinery becomes second nature and at this Centre where ‘reality’ is important, this is easily achieved.

The areas in which you will be trained on are:

• Constructing through mortice and tenon
• Constructing stub mortice and tenon
• Constructing haunched mortice and tenon
• Constructing centre bridle joint
• Constructing dovetail halving joint
• Constructing through dovetail
• Constructing double mortice and tenon
• Constructing shouldered housing
• Constructing slot dovetail

How You’ll Learn

This 4 weeks of hands on ‘reality’ training will cover all of the basic and essential skills that any Joiner will need.

The course will provide you with in depth training to cover the 9 Joinery units and even though you will not be going through a qualification process, your progress will be consistently assessed by our qualified instructors, giving you the same benefits as someone who might be training with us for qualification purposes.

All of these skills will come together as you finish your training by constructing one or more of the following:

• A nail box
• A pair of gallows brackets
• A garden gate
• A built in cupboard

Courses Open To You After

Able Skills also offers the option to do a Hands-On Carpentry course – again covering the units of a City & Guilds qualification but without the paperwork and certification at the end.

Additional Info

This course can be covered over a period to suit you and you can train for 4 consecutive weeks, divide your weeks up or even incorporate some weekend training if you have ongoing weekly commitments. At Able Skills we aim to make our qualifications as accessible as is possible and additionally we offer a payment plan which, following a deposit, is on an interest free pay as you train basis.

This is a hands-on, practical joinery course and you will be involved at every stage and will be participating throughout. It is therefore recommended you bring suitable clothing and for your own safety, steel capped footwear is essential.

Duration & Cost

This is a 4 Week (20 day) course and the cost is £1295.00 including vat. A deposit of £400.00 will secure a booking with the balance payable over the period of the training.
