Training for Staff Working with Dangerous Goods

Storage & Movement of Dangerous Goods Course:

With effect from March 1999, a training requirement was introduced to the Carriage of Explosives by Road, Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road Regulations and the ADR Regulations(as amended).

ADR Regs Chapter 1.3, 1.4 & 8.2 and CDG 07 Reg 38 require training for persons engaged in the carraige of dangerous goods:

1. The operator, consignor, and any other person involved in the carriage of dangerous goods by road shall ensure that he and those of his employees whose reponsibilities are concerned with such carriage receive training so as to enable them to discharge those responsible.

2. Each employer shall keep a record for a minimum of 5 years of any training provided by him in accordance with paragraph (1) and shall make available a copy of that record to the employee concerned.

This course is designed to meet that requirement;

Course Aims:
The course is aimed at both outside staff, eg. Warehousemen, Fork Truck Operators, and office staff, eg. Traffic Allocators, Forwarders, for both these groups the course covers:

General background to dangerous goods transport, eg. The UN list, Danger Classes, Approved Containers, Information Sources.

Fire and Fire Prevention, eg. The nature of fire, action in the event of fire, fire extinguishers.

And for the 'outside group' -

Safe handling, eg. Avoiding container damage, action in the event of spillage, decontamination, personal protective equipment.

And for the 'inside group' -

Transport Regulations, eg. General application of DG Road, IMDG, and ADR, packages, documentation, vehicle marking, vehicle equipment.
