Method of assessment
A third of the units studied will be assessed by written examinations, the remainder by portfolio or coursework.

Why choose this course?
If you are interested in working in any sort of caring profession, for example nursing, midwifery, teaching, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy or social work; or if you are interested in a career in an area such as Psychology or Sociology, then this is a valuable qualification. Although you will study some theory, the emphasis of the course is on applying the information that you learn to real situations. If you do have a particular career in mind, you will be able to select optional units that will be relevant to that career.

There are many opportunities for students to experience real life situations that will enhance their understanding of this subject. You will be able to visit a number of different environments including health centres, residential homes, schools, nurseries and possibly hospital departments. You will also have the chance to work in early years or residential settings, carry out health promotion campaigns and possibly work with complementary therapists. You may also get the chance to take a course in signing .
