This programme is aimed at those aged over 18, who are working as care workers with professionals in Health, Social Services, Independent Sectors and Early Years. The programme is for students who would like to obtain a degree and is designed to provide students with a high level of understanding in Health & Social Care / Early Years and consists of a combination of core, optional and appropriate work experience. Degree structure Year 1 – Core courses: Academic and Personal Development. Managing business resources in care settings. Work based learning - 1. Introduction to Care Policy. Plus a choice of 2 optional courses: Language & child. Creativity & child. Community care in practice. Social context of intellectual impairments. Concepts of social & emotional developments. (Unseen exam). (15 or 30 credits) Year 2 – Core courses: Contemporary issues in care (Care) or Law and the child (Early Years). Introduction to the research process. Ethics of care. Work based learning - 2. Managing day care & residential settings. Plus a choice of 2 optional courses: Children in society. Health promotion in Early Years. Self & Disability. Introduction to dementia care. Mental health and Intellectual disabilities.. (15 or 30 credits)

5 GCSE's Grade A-C, including English and mathematics. PLUS 1 A Level with minimum of 40 points at A2 Level. OR BTEC Subsidiary Award, Merit or above and Key Skills. OR NVQ / QFC Level 3 (with evidence of relevant work experience). OR a recognised Access programme. Mature students without formal qualifications may be considered as a result of life and/or work experience and a College entry test..

Course programme
Assessment All units are graded as pass, merit or distinction. Students must pass each unit to get the overall FD H&Scare (Care) at the end of the programme. Assessment is through assignments including essay, report writing, and portfolio building. Careers Students can progress onto the third year of the Full Honours Degree in Health and Social Care at the University of Greenwich, or to employment in a Health & Social Care / Early Years role.
