This qualification will develop your knowledge and awareness of the types of provision in the Health, Social Care and in the Children’s and Young People’s sector. You will study the roles played by workers – from principles and values through to health and safety and working with others. In the Certificate there is the option to take units in more specialised areas such as learning disability, sensory loss or mental health. The course also encourages learners to develop the personal and social skills necessary for working in the Childcare or Health and Social Care Sector. There are opportunities for learners to improve on Basic Skills achievements and support is available for students who need help with their written work. There also maybe the opportunity to participate in a placement in a Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed by your tutor or assessor using a range of methods. This could include tasks set by CACHE such as designing charts or leaflets, coursework or methods such as oral questioning.

What is the entry process?

Applications can be online or a form requested from Warwickshire College, followed by an individual interview.

What are the entry requirements?

Minimum qualifications: Not applicable

No formal qualifications are necessary for this course. You will need an interview with a Course Tutor and a positive School/ College report.

What else do I need to know?

This is a 1 year full-time programme. Learners are required to attend College 3 days per week

It is advised that Learners do not plan any holidays during term time as these are not normally permitted.

English and Maths

English and maths qualifications are vitally important for future employers and universities, so the government has made it a priority for students to improve these skills.

Entry Level / Level 1 and Level 2: We’re here to help you on your journey, so if you do not achieve grade A*-C in GCSE English and/or maths, then you will study English and/or maths as part of your college course.

Students who achieve a D grade will be placed on the relevant GCSE programme, while students who achieve an E or below will be assessed to ensure they are placed on the right study programme for their ability.

Level 3 programmes: You will need to meet the course entry requirements specified on the course information above. For the majority of our Level 3 courses, students will need grade A*-C in GCSE English and/or maths. If this is not specified in the course entry requirement, then you may be able to study English and/or maths as part of your college course.

What can I do after this course?

Successful students may be able to progress to an appropriate Level 2 qualification or to seek training through employment.
