Health Studies - Open College Level 2

Introduction:
This course takes a much wider perspective and focuses on health as a positive issue influenced by wider social, economic and political factors.

Study Mode & Location:
This 16 week part time course will last for 3 hours per week. It will be held at Preston College, Fulwood Campus, St Vincent`s Road, Preston, PR2 8UR.

Course Content:
Students are encouraged to develop a critical outlook through the use of case studies, audiovisual material and personal experience. The course material covers:

  • Definitions and concepts of health
  • Factor influencing health
  • Patterns of disease
  • Lifestyles and health.


Assessment:
Assessment is a three step process which includes:

  • A short piece of work (500 words)
  • An extended piece (1,200 words)
  • A portfolio of notes.


Careers & Progression Opportunities:
This Level 2 unit will, like all evidence of study, enhance your curriculum vitae (CV), and, therefore, could improve employment prospects. You could also progress to study other Level 2 units in a related subject, or if you are ready you can move on to Level 3 units if you achieve Grades 4/5 such as:

  • Social Issues in Health Care
  • Approaches to Social and Community Work
  • Principles of Care.


Alternatively you may wish to join an access course such as nursing, midwifery and health-related studies; social, youth and community work (you must have at least 2/3 recent Level 2 qualifications at Grades 4/5).

How To Apply
You will need to have an informal interview with a Adult Admissions Adviser.
Many courses have limited places so please enquire as soon as possible. Following interview, the earliest you may enrol is mid-June.
