The Healthcare Practice Foundation Degree course equips professionals to work as a Nursing Associate and to progress their career within the health and social care sector.
The Nursing Associate Programme is an apprenticeship based course and requires you to be in substantive employment in a relevant post prior to, and throughout, the two-year programme.

About this course
During the course you will experience placements external to your usual place of work. This will give you the opportunity to gain a wide range of experiences through exposure to different health and care settings.
Successful completion of this course equips trainees to work as a Nursing Associate and to progress a career within the health and social care sector. The course will enable you to develop a wide range of specialist and transferable clinical, care and interpersonal skills (including medicines management).
You should be employed at NHS Agenda for Change Band 2 or 3 as a healthcare support worker (or equivalent). At the point of entry onto the course, you should be working within a health or care setting where you can be appropriately supervised by a Registered Nurse or other appropriate health or care professional.
This course enables Trainee Nursing Associates to develop transferable core healthcare skills and knowledge within a wide range of health and care settings. The qualification is awarded by St George's, University of London and teaching provided by the Faculty of Health, Social Care and Education.

Course programme
Modules are self-contained units of teaching, learning and assessment which usually run for three months. Modules may be delivered singly or in combination with other modules and are worth a fixed amount of credit; so if you pass the module you gain the appropriate number of credits which then count towards your degree.
Trainee Nursing Associates usually take modules worth 120 credits in each year of study, with a total of five modules being studied each year.
