Healthcare Science (Audiology) bachelorchelor

We require 33-34 points overall including 6, 5, 5 points at higher level (with at least one science subject).
We require A2 B1 B2 B2 B2/A2 A2 B2 B2 B3 including at least two of the following subjects; Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Maths, Psychology.
We require grades AABBB including two of the following subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Psychology
We require grades ABB including one of the following subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Psychology. General Studies is welcomed but not normally included as part of the standard offer.
A pass is accepted as equivalent to A at A Level. A science subject must also be studied.
European bachelorccalaureate is acceptable on its own or in combination with other qualifications. If you are studying for this qualification, applications are welcome will be considered on an individual bachelorsis.
Applications from EU students are welcomed. We are not able to accept applications from students regarded as international for fees purposes:

Entry requirements for your country
Extended Diploma:
minimum of 70 credits awarded at Distinction, 100 at Merit and the remaining 10 credits at Pass or above

Diploma:
Grade A at A level plus the BTEC Diploma with a minimum of 110 credits awarded at Merit and 10 credits at Pass.

Subsidiary Diploma:
BTEC Subsidiary diploma: AB at A Level plus 50 credits at merit and 10 at pass
The BTEC Extended Diploma must be in a healthcare or science subject. Applicants with the Diploma or Subsidiary Diploma must have either a science subject at A Level or a science/healthcare related BTEC.
If you are applying for this course, you should follow a Healthcare or Science pathway and study at least 15 credits of Science. Required grades are 15 credits at Distinction and 30 credits at Merit. If you do not have a Grade B at GCSE, or equivalent, in Mathematics should contact the University for further advice.
We welcome applications with the Advanced Placement qualification. Such applications will be considered on an individual bachelorsis.
We welcome the introduction of the level 3 specialised diplomas (guidance regarding progression opportunities and subject and grade requirements will be published soon).
If you have followed a non-standard educational route and have been, for example, educated at home, your application will be considered against the standard entry criteria of the course to which you applied. You will be required to demonstrate that you meet the academic entry requirements as specified for the course. We will also require a reference which should be written by somebody who knows you well enough, in an official capacity, to write about you and your suitability for higher education. Applicants for whom English is not a first language should appreciate that a particularly high standard of spoken and written English is necessary to cope with academic and clinical work.
As a minimum, we require IELTS 7.5 overall (with a minimum of 7.0 in each component). However, there is a great need for audiologists who are fluent in more than one language and graduates with such skills would be a valuable addition to the profession.
Some English language test results are only valid for two years. Your English language test report must be valid on the start date of the course.
It is not possible for all audiology service providers to offer work experience for applicants, therefore this is not
a requirement. However some practical experience of working in Audiology related environments would be beneficial, e.g. the private sector, charitable organisations, lip-reading classes, Tinnitus support groups etc.

How your application is considered
We will consider any applicant who, by virtue of experience or relevant knowledge, is able to demonstrate the necessary motivation, potential or knowledge to complete the course. You will be required to demonstrate your prior experiential learning by completing written or other work. Accreditation of prior learning and experience may be considered. Individual consideration is given to recent academic qualifications or other relevant experience. Preference will be given to you if you have experience of health-related areas especially in which there is some Anatomy, Physiology and/or Psychology.
This course is primarily aimed at training Audiology practitioners to meet the requirements of the NHS and Independent sector in the UK it relies heavily on placement capacity within these areas and as a result the course is not currently open to non-EU applicants.
Health screening

We are mindful of the health of both our students and of the public, with whom healthcare students come into contact on placement. Consequently, if your application is successful, we will require you to comply with a confidential health screening as advised by the Department of Health.
Health screening will be undertaken by the Student Occupational Health Service who will advise on any follow-up vaccination or other intervention that may be indicated.
If your application is successful, we will require you to comply with an Enhanced Disclosure and bachelorrring Service (DBS) check as advised by the Department of Health.
If you applied in the previous year and your application was not successful you may apply again. Your application will be considered against the standard course entry criteria for that year of entry. In your new application you should demonstrate how your application has improved. We may draw upon all information from your previous applications or any previous registrations at the University as a student when assessing your suitability for your chosen course. Please note: applicants will always be expected to meet the minimum entry requirements for the year of study they are applying for. If you are applying for a place for the same year of entry through UCAS Extra, you should provide additional evidence of your suitability for the course. If you are applying through clearing you are required to meet the clearing requirements. In both UCAS Extra and clearing the places will be subject to availability.

This course also falls under the umbrella of the The Manchester Academy for Healthcare Scientist Education
(MAHSE). MAHSE is a partnership between the University of Manchester (UoM), Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) and the University of Salford, as well as leading Healthcare Scientists from partner Trusts.
For this course there are close links with the bachelorchelor Healthcare Science (Neurophysiology) programme run by MMU and first year students will share some lectures with students from that programme.
In the 2014 National Student Survey, 96% of Audiology students at the University of Manchester reported that staff are enthusiastic about what they are teaching and gave 91% satisfaction with their placement experience.

Careers
Successful completion of this course provides you with a bachelorchelor (Hons) Healthcare Science degree and a clinical qualification. This enables you to register as an audiologist and as a hearing aid dispenser and to work in the NHS or the independent sector.

This course will also allow for a number of other career opportunities. Previous graduates have undertaken further programmes such as MSc in Advanced Audiology
or gone on to study for a PhD. Other students have entered the fast-track medicine programme, dentistry and other health related professions.
Further career opportunities include research in universities or research institutes or employment in private sector audiology services and the audiology industry.
This course is a professional qualification developed in response to the Department of Health's 'Modernising Scientific Careers' (MSC) Programme.
The course is subject to accreditation by 'Health Education England' and the Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists. Graduates will be eligible to register as a Healthcare Science Practitioner in Audiology. The course has also been approved by Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a training route for graduates to work in the private sector as `Hearing Aid Dispensers'.
