Why study FdSc Healthcare Science?
Healthcare scientists play a vital role in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions, as well as in rehabilitation. Rapid advances in technology mean it is now one of the most exciting, challenging and rewarding areas in the NHS. This FdSc course has been created to develop a common career pathway, education and training standards for Healthcare Science Associates.
Why study our course?
FdSc Healthcare Science at UWE Bristol is delivered through a unique collaboration with NHS providers, to offer professional training and career development for NHS Healthcare Science Associates. With a focus on workplace training and online learning, combined with block sessions for valuable practical training at the University, you will be able to study with minimal disruption to your work and continue to earn while you learn.
Real-world experience
To join the course, you will need to be employed as a trainee Healthcare Science Associate or have secured a Higher Apprenticeship training position in a pathology laboratory, clinical physiology department or community health centre. With the majority of the course undertaken at your workplace, you will gain work-based skills through tailored on-the-job training designed to develop your portfolio of practical and professional capabilities.
Where it can take you
The course meets the training needs at Career Framework 4 for Healthcare Science Associates and, if you choose to continue your training development beyond the FdSc, will prepare you for progression onto the third year of our BSc(Hons) Healthcare Science. Graduates generally follow careers based in NHS laboratories, community clinics or research. Your knowledge, analytical skills and communication abilities could also lead you to other opportunities such as in clinical trials, drug regulatory work, medical communications, scientific journalism, forensics and medical sales.
