There are no entry requirements to the Apprenticeship but employers may run their own selection process.
Minimum Level 1 Functional Skills English and Maths preferred.
In order to enrol onto an Apprenticeship, you need to be employed in a relevant job role and undertake a range of tasks which would enable you to complete the Apprenticeship qualification.

Course programme

Summary

Work as part of a team providing high quality and compassionate care to individuals. Carry out well-defined routine clinical duties like monitoring an individual’s conditions (blood pressure, temperature or weight), checking overall progress, comfort and wellbeing. They may also help individuals to eat, drink, wash, dress or go to the toilet, whilst following their care plan.

They may also carry out non-clinical duties (e.g. keeping records, making beds, tidying up your work area, returning or cleaning the equipment used). HCSWs work in a range of healthcare settings (e.g. hospitals, community clinics/health centres, individual homes, nursing/care homes, hospices, mental health settings, and GP surgeries). They will report to a registered healthcare practitioner who will directly or indirectly supervise your work.

You will complete the Level 2 Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship Standard.

  • This Apprenticeship will involve college attendance and off the job training.
  • You will also develop your knowledge, skills and behaviours.
  • You need to have an employer to support your Apprenticeship and be employed in a relevant job role.
  • The typical length of this Apprenticeship course is 18 months.
  • This course has multiple start dates throughout the year.
