Industrial Commercial Heating & Ventilation apprenticeships are for those wishing to gain the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to begin a rewarding career within the Building Services Engineering Industry. This is a specialist branch of engineering within the construction sector and specialises in the installation of industrial and commercial water and heating systems. The apprenticeship is comprised of two main qualifications: Engineering Installer (Level 2) and Building Services Engineering Craftsperson (Level 3), both of which are awarded by City & Guilds.
Knowledge
You will develop the following knowledge topics to Level 2 standard:
• Understand safe working practices applying to yourself and others
• Understand basic scientific principles underpinning building services
• Understand environmental protection measures within building services
• Understand how system components relate to each other
• Understand basic operating principles of installation
• Understand material resources, legislation and effective use of energy
Skills
You will be able to demonstrate the following skills to Level 2 standard:
• Apply relevant safety legislation, codes of practice and safe working practices
• Undertake the installation of industrial and commercial systems
• Prepare work areas in new and existing sites
• Apply pipework fabrication, installation and jointing techniques
• Undertake testing, pre-commissioning, commissioning and decommissioning of industrial and commercial systems

Candidates must be in a suitable job role for each level apprenticeship and must complete the Level 2 qualification prior to progressing onto the Level 3. Apprentice candidates should not be on any other Government-funded training; must hold a contract of employment and not be self-employed. Residency conditions apply.

How is it assessed?
Both the Level 2 and Level 3 apprenticeships are assessed by end-point assessment which comprises of:
• Synoptic Knowledge Test
• Practical Skills Test
• Professional Discussion
How is it delivered?
Both the Level 2 and Level 3 apprenticeships are delivered in the workplace with regular assessor-trainer visits to make sure you are on track to complete and achieve.
