Introduction The International Foundation Programmes (IFP) will enable you to prepare for study on an undergraduate programme at a UK university. The individual programmes in Art & Design, Engineering, Information Technology and Media Studies combine academic study, intensive English support, study skills and cultural orientation throughout the course. The development of critical skills will give you the ability to work in groups, present ideas, manage your time effectively, conduct research for essay writing and presentations and be able to take notes in lectures. Evaluating your own work will be a key feature during your study time.
During the IFP, all academic subjects including English for Academic Purposes, will be taught using a range of teaching styles to help you develop university level skills, required for undergraduate study. This will involve classroom work in lectures or small groups to provide you with key subject information. A variety of workshops, tutorials and seminars will be used to allow you to participate openly in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Practical work will also be an important feature to give you 'hands-on' experience.
There will be plenty of opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutors and you will receive a high degree of pastoral care and attention to your academic progress from our experienced personal tutors.
The tuition fee for the 2010/11 programme is £8,200. Fees are subject to change in subsequent years. When you decide to come to the UK to study, one of your first considerations will be the financial support you will need. It is vital that you have enough money to pay your fees, accommodation, living costs and return flights home. We estimate that you will need at least £8,500 in addition to the tuition fees above to cover accommodation and other living expenses for the academic year. A deposit of £1000 is payable on acceptance of a place on the IFP and is non-refundable unless a student visa is not granted. Payment of the full balance is payable at registration.
