Course programme

Overview:

The course also sets out to make the students fully aware of the correlation that exists between clothing and set design. Such things as seasonal colours and the latest fashion aspects will be explored fully.

Students attend from every corner of the globe and we pride ourselves knowing that they will take back with them an excellent education with which they can realise their dream and fulfil their career as a makeup artist.

Each student receives attention, help and guidance whenever it is needed. Throughout the course great emphasis is made to ensure that the highest quality of work is produced.

Working alongside lecturers and guest professionals such as those from Vogue, Elle and Harpers and Queen, as well as other high fashion publications, builds mutual respect for everyone involved and we feel that this is an important aspect of the complete education.

Month 1 - makeup

Days 1 to 5, students learn how to apply foundations and match translucent powders for different skin types and ethnic groups.

Days 6 to 10, students move on to demonstrations of catalogue and classic make- ups.

* History of modern fashion period make- ups, keeping original features, modernising colours for educational fashion, music videos and motion pictures ranging from 1920's, 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90 up to millennium.
* Tattoos. Make up for men in fashion.
* Make up for black and white photography.

Month 2 - Hair

During this month students learn how to dress the hair and work with products for fashion shoots, catwalks and music videos.

* Use of electrical equipment, hair pieces, straightening and creating Afro effects
* Period styles ranging from 1920's to millennium, also contemporary styles. Make up and hair for trendy magazines.

Month 3 Make up and Hair

This month students take all subjects taught and combine hair and makeup to create full looks for their portfolios. Also students are asked to design a look after learning all periods for a fashion show, each student will be in supervision of the group and take charge of hair and makeup as if it's a proper professional show taking place. This will get them an insight on how to take charge as an established makeup designer in a fashion show, music video. All students can re cap on previous makeups taught and contact sheets to be chosen for those who decided to have portfolios, throughout their training. Students are taught the best way on how to approach the industry once they have left the course and are groomed to become thorough, precise and dedicated fashion makeup and hair artists, who hopefully feel confident enough to approach fashion houses capable of producing high standard work.

* Classic makeup for photographic sessions and working with hair.
* Stylised makeup and hair for periods 1910 to 2004.
* Accentuated styles created by working with Carmens, perm rods, tongs, hair up and down.
* Cat shape black eyes with sexy hairstyles, the use of different colours and stylised eye shapes.
* Smoky round black eyes with hair up.
* Catwalk makeups.
* Students learn how to research makeups for different seasons for what is required in the fashion houses.
* Working on lips, colour, shading, lip lines, highlighting, balancing and accentuating.
* Blending eye colour, different eye shapes and accentuating bone structure.
* Working with eyelashes.

When students have reached the level of accomplishing all techniques taught so far, the Fashion lecturer expects "full looks" to be produced such as:

* Catwalk
* Natural
* Period
* Photographic
* Sexy looks

Being absolutely 100% perfect when applying Fashion makeup is a must, students must learn to take criticism to enable themselves to learn if they want to succeed, and have good portfolio evidence like our tutor who works world wide for well known fashion houses. The same applies to commercials and music videos for those who wish to enter that area.

Students must remember to concentrate throughout this course, take in all that is taught from the lecturer and liase with the photographer, (if pre-booked) your final pictures depend strongly on your work, a photographer will not be able to produce excellent work from average standards. Past students have proved to produce excellent work and portfolios.
