Course programme
Recognise when an infant, child or young person is acutely ill or potentially seriously unwell. Understand the physiology and pathophysiology of acute paediatric illness. Learn to care for those with high-dependency Level 1 & Level 2 care needs.
This course will teach you to care for infants, children and young people with high-dependency needs, and who require Level 1 care. You’ll also learn to stabilise patients who need respiratory support or Level 2 care prior to transfer.
Through a blend of theory and practice, you will:
- recognise when an infant, child or young person is acutely ill or potentially seriously unwell
- understand and explain the physiology and pathophysiology behind acute paediatric illness
- begin and maintain supportive therapies for these patients.
You will already be working in an area with infants, children, and young people. Our module will enable you to enhance your assessment skills, and to effectively communicate your concerns within the interdisciplinary team to reduce the risks of serious unnoticed complications.
Assessment
You will take a 3-hour exam at your place of study, and you’ll also be assessed on your practice competencies in your place of work.
